Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 | Design, Specifications, and Release Details

Samsung is rumored to release a “Slim” version of its foldable handset by the end of 2024, marking the first time in the Galaxy Fold family’s five-year history.

However, a new social media rumor suggests that Samsung will bring a device called W25 to the world’s largest smartphone market in October with a lighter and thinner body than the “standard” Galaxy Z Fold 6, more screen real estate, and no S Pen support.

Connection to Previous Models

The W25 is closely connected to the W24 label applied to a special China-exclusive edition of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 last fall. The W25/Z Fold 6 Slim is expected to be slimmer than the Z Fold 6 and likely to be released in other regions under the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim moniker.

The “normal” Z Fold 6 is tipped to measure 12.1mm in folded thickness and 5.6mm in unfolded form, making it a contender for the title of best foldable phone money can buy in 2024.

Rumored Specifications and Materials

Ice Universe has debunked the theory, highlighting that the W25 “has a titanium frame,” which is also expected from the Z Fold 6. The Z Fold 6 Ultra is expected to feature a state-of-the-art titanium construction, but both the Ultra and FE versions of the company’s next big foldable could be released in limited numbers in just one or two Asian markets.

Prototype Images and Design Details

New images of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 dummy units have emerged, providing a deeper look at the Samsung foldable and internal display crease. These prototypes show off the full device and provide details on the modified camera array as well as the new, boxier foldable shape.

The images show both outer and inner displays of each device, and it appears that generation six still carries a significant display crease.

Upcoming Release in China

Samsung is set to release a new ‘Slim’ variant of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 later this year, reportedly in October in China. The slimmer variant, a Galaxy W25, is said to be lighter and thinner than the standard Fold 6, possibly taking inspiration from Apple’s iPhone 17. The device is expected to be launched in October and does not support the S Pen due to its trimmed-down dimensions.

Potential Global Expansion and Price Considerations

The Galaxy W25 is expected to expand globally, potentially marking the Asian market as a testing ground for the device. The Fold 6 variant is expected to see a price hike due to generative AI features.

Samsung is reportedly considering raising prices for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 due to rumors that they will carry higher prices than their predecessors. The new foldables are expected to be announced next month during Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event, which is expected to take place on July 10.

Expected Enhancements and AI Features

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is expected to see significant changes, particularly in camera technology, with the main camera upgraded to a 50MP sensor and the cover screen expanding to provide 3.9 inches of space. Samsung’s next foldables should introduce new Galaxy AI features, possibly even those related to their unique designs and multitasking capabilities.

Launch Details and Technical Specifications

Samsung is set to launch its next set of foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6, at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event on July 10, 2024. The devices will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, offering better performance and efficiency compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC in the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Design and Camera Updates

Both phones will have a more boxier and sharper design, with foldable displays expected to have a less noticeable crease than the current models.

The 12MP primary camera on the back of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be replaced with a 50MP device on the Galaxy Z Flip 6. The clamshell phone will have a 4,000mAh battery compared to the 3,700mAh unit on the current model.

Software and Feature Enhancements

One UI 6.1.1 will be released with the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Galaxy Z Fold 6, reportedly bringing many new Galaxy AI features, including a feature that can improve portrait photos using drawings. A picture showing a case for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 reveals that there will be no major changes to the size of the cover display, with the 7.6-inch foldable display having the same size but a different aspect ratio.

Regulatory Filings and Final Specifications

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 is set to launch in the coming weeks, with new documents from the South Korean company revealing key specs. The information came from China’s MIIT database, which controls cellular and internet services across the country.

The filing confirms the Z Fold 6’s capabilities, including dual-SIM support over 5G. The filing also confirms the model numbers (SM-F9560 for the Fold and SM-F7410 for the Flip). For more info you check Samsung official Website.
