Cincinnati Police Respond to Potential Tiger Sighting

Cincinnati Police received a call about a potential tiger sighting, prompting a thorough search near the University of Cincinnati. Despite the alarming report, the Cincinnati Zoo confirmed that all their big cats were securely in their enclosures.

Michelle Curley, the communications director at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden, assured the public that their 24-7 safety staff and surveillance cameras confirmed the presence of their tigers, Zero and Jin, in their designated areas.

Search Efforts and Public Safety

Officers conducted an extensive search around Burnet Woods, Martin Luther King Drive, and Crosley Tower, but no additional sightings of the tiger were reported.

This incident follows a similar situation in April 2021, when Cincinnati Police responded to Price Hill after reports of monkeys climbing in trees. Since then, no other big cat sightings have occurred.

Confirmation from the Zoo

Michelle Curley emphasized the effectiveness of their security measures:

“They received a call from CPD about the possible tiger sighting, and because we have cameras in place, it was easy for them to confirm that our big cats were all accounted for.”

The zoo’s response and verification provide reassurance to the community.

Legal Restrictions and Safety

Ownership of tigers has been illegal in Ohio since 2012, further complicating the mystery of the reported sighting.

The absence of additional sightings and the zoo’s confirmation of their tigers’ safety indicate no immediate threat to the public.

The Cincinnati Zoo continues to maintain strict safety protocols to ensure the well-being of both the animals and the community. Read More News
